REFLECTION
There’s a necessary dying, and then Jesus is breathing again.
Very little grows on jagged
rock. Be ground. Be crumbled, so wildflowers will come up
where you are. You’ve been
stony for too many years. Try something different. Surrender.
From “A Necessary Autumn Inside Each” by Rumi.
Translated by Coleman Barks in The Soul of Rumi.

CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: How lovely is the dwelling place
of the One who calls us.
Voice 1: Our souls are filled with longing,
longing for the house of God.
Voice 2: Our bodies sing,
Sing our joy to the living God.
All: As a sparrow coming home,
a swallow seeking its nest,
we long to sing in the house of God.

Leader: We wrestle with our brokenness,
forgetting the words God has given to us.
Voice 1: We live in our anger.
We fail to care for the lost and forgotten.
Voice 2: We put our interests before the interests of all.
We confuse faith with self-righteousness.
Leader: We are corruptible.
All: All this we lay before you,
Creator of life, and light, and love.
ASSURANCE
Leader: Friends, remember that the Creator,
our God,
is the source of every good gift.
The Word is planted in our hearts.
