Rethinking Call in a Changing World
Prophets of Ancient Israel
Classes are free and all are welcome. A light dinner will be served at 7:00 ($4 donation suggested), and the actual classes begin around 7:45 and end at 9:30.
Rethinking Call in a Changing World
• Does God have a “good work” for me now? At this time in my life?
• Is there a new way for us to listen and respond together?
Explore the concept of call as a spiral journey—unfolding throughout our lives. This 6-week course will include individual and group exercises, discernment of gifts and ministries in the ordinary structures of our lives — at home, at work, and in the hurting world around us. Come ready to listen, learn, participate and pray together.
Marjory Zoet Bankson will facilitate this exploration. Her books, Call to the Soul and Creative Aging will be the primary texts for this class.
Prophets of Ancient Israel
We will focus on the eighth century BCE prophets, paying attention to the cultural/political conditions of the time, the prophetic call, the message itself, and the consequences for both the prophets and the nation. We will read and discuss the books of Amos, Hosea, Jeremiah, and first Isaiah. There will be opportunities to reflect on the relevance, or lack of it, of their mode of prophecy to our times and lives.
Ken Burton will facilitate this class.
