Seekers recognizes that any member of the community may be called upon by God to give us the Word, and thus we have an open pulpit with a different preacher each week. Sermons preached at Seekers, as well as sermons preached by Seekers at other churches or events, are posted here, beginning with the most recent.

Feel free to use what is helpful from these sermons. We only ask that when substantial portions are abstracted or used in a written work, please credit Seekers Church and the author, and cite the URL.

We better go talk to the building development team. They have to know what Jesus wants.
Pat Conover: From Covert Despair to Salvation
February 16, 2003
Solidarity helps a whole lot. I think of the Chaldean Christian Church in Baghdad that has finally finished a new building it is using for service to orphans and for other service purposes. They asked a church delegation to please tell President Bush not to bomb their new building and not to hurt the people they serve.
Sue Johnson: Growing Edges — Backing In
February 02, 2003
Abandoning prepared text and the lectern, Sue used an InterPlay form called Big Body Story, created in the moment using movement and voice, in the circle space in front of the altar. She told the story of backing into becoming an organist, going from “not good enough” to just doing it. “Being in the Leadership Program has brought me smack up against my ‘not good enough’ once again. The inner struggle is to discern whether that is operating, or whether I am truly not called to lead InterPlay.”
Btissam El Hassar: Footprints
January 26, 2003
I grew up in a family (father, mother and sister) that is not religious at all. I was in a Mosque once when I was 6 years old, and I never went back. Thus, my understanding of the language of religion is poor. The first time I came to Seekers I was attracted to the community, though I did not understand the spiritual life that reigns here. I did not understand exactly why people were doing what they did. Why did they admit their mistakes aloud? I was very eager to learn about the spiritual life in Seekers.
Marjory Zoet Bankson: Remember Who You Are!
January 12, 2003
Baptism is a mini death and resurrection experience, recalling the transformation that took place when she was born — expelled from her internal Eden, the dark watery world of the womb where all her needs were met into the air-breathing realm of light and language. Because we have already lived through one such a physical transformation in being born, we can imagine another as we die. Baptism is a sign of the mysterious presence of Eternal Spirit in our flesh, even unto death.
