Kings and Prophets

led by David Lloyd

Economic and political instability, war and threat of war, and a culture that devalues the spiritual life – these were known to the people of Israel and Judah after settling the Promised Land. Could there be a word for us in the prophets’ proclamation of God’s word to the king of their time? We will explore the interaction between the most familiar kings of Israel and Judah and the prophets who spoke– Saul (Samuel), David (Nathan), Ahab (Micaiah, Elijah and Elisha), Jeroboam II (Amos and Hosea), Jotham and Ahaz (Isaiah) – in selections from the books of 1st and 2nd Samuel, 1st and 2nd Kings, and Amos, Hosea, and Isaiah. This class satisfies the Hebrew Scriptures class requirement for those preparing to become a Steward of Seekers church.

Your Five Wishes

led by Cynthia Dahlin

Five Wishes is a tool developed by the organization Aging with Dignity to help individuals specify who they would like to make medical decisions for them when they no longer can, and to carefully name in advance what kinds of treatment decisions they want made. In addition, you can specify how you want to be treated, and write down any wishes you have for the disposal of your remains and your memorial service. This is a process which can be helped by having time to discuss ideas with others and to see the variation in how our experiences with the deaths of others can affect our own choices so that we find we need to express our individual desires–they are unique and different from each others! At the end of this class, it is hoped that you will have completed a Five Wishes document, and perhaps store it at Seekers or a place that you tell others so that it can be accessed at the time of your death. You also will be asked to tell the story of your life at Seekers Church to be included in our community Memory Book.
