Rejoice in the Day
Jubilee 2004
Reflection
Rejoice in that day and leap for joy… Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those that curse you, pray for those who abuse you. If anyone strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from anyone who takes away your coat do not withhold even your shirt. Give to everyone who begs from you, and if anyone takes away your goods, do not ask for them again. Do to others as you would have them do to you.
Luke 6:23, 27-31
PRELUDE
CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: O God of this bountiful Creation,
we gather here to sing and celebrate.
Voice 1: We gather here to share our lives,
to praise the power of the Risen Christ.
Voice 2: We come to comfort one another
when fear rises unbidden from deep within.
Leader: We wait In faith for your presence
to become clearer in the world around us.
All: O Holy Mystery,
open our ears, our eyes and our hearts
so we can recognize
that every thought and thing belongs to you.
Amen.

CONFESSION
Leader: Make a joyful noise,
break forth into joyous song
and sing praises to the Holy One.
People: We forget how to rejoice
when we see so much trouble in the world.
Leader: Sing praises to God with the lyre,
with the lyre and the sound of melody.
People: We do not feel like singing
when we think about how hard life is
for us and for others.
Leader: With trumpets and the sound of the horn
make a joyful noise before our God.
All: When we let our problems be all that there is,
we want to leave rejoicing for some other day.
INDIVIDUAL PRAYERS OF CONFESSION
ASSURANCE
Leader: When we forget how to rejoice,
God makes the sea roar,
the floods clap their hands,
even the hills sing together for joy,
and we are comforted by God's love.
All: Amen.
PRAYERS OF THE COMMUNITY
JESUS PRAYER
All: Eternal Spirit, Father and Mother of us all,
Holy is your name.
Let justice and mercy fill all Creation
and let us recognize
that every thought and thing belongs to you.
Feed us with the bread we need for today.
Forgive our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Stand with us in trial and temptation.
Free us from the grip of all that is evil.
For you alone are creating our universe,
now and forever.
Amen.

letting gratitude flow from us,
