Housekeeping: Stewards will next meet on Sunday, September 4, 5:30 pm at the church.

Moderator: Deborah                Worship:  Dave

Recorder: Sandra                     Angels: Cynthia & Vince

Worship was offered by Joan, using Adam McHugh’s “The Listening Life” as an introduction for lectio divinia on Psalm 50.

Alcohol Use Policy: Deborah (for Time & Space)

The attached policy was approved in principle by Stewards.

Keith suggested that the legal review team be reconstituted to check such policies for legal requirements. SLT agreed that they do not want to be the legal review team and will put this on a future agenda for discussion.

Music in Worship: Brenda (for SLT)

In response to changes in the way that music is being offered for worship by various musicians, the SLT has designed a questionnaire about individual preferences, which will be circulated in September. That will be followed by a 3rd Sunday discussion open to anyone in the community in October.

David reminded Stewards that Learners & Teachers will be coordinating 3rd Sunday discussions on various topics throughout the year.

October 2 Takoma Park Street Fair: Keith (for Outreach Mission Group)

Since the TP Folk Festival has been canceled, the OMG is planning to have a booth at the Street Fair using the same plan for training and outreach that they had proposed for the folk festival.

3rd Sunday in Sept will focus on how to present Seekers to various people.

Carroll Café: Sandra

Due to her workload, Deborah had resigned from the CC Board. Now Jesse has also resigned. Sandra read the group’s call and said that the remaining people (Sandra, Denise, Glen and Marcia) don’t want to set that call down at this point. They do not know whether there is a contract with Joe Uehlein for a cd release in October, but they want to honor all outstanding support and prayers as they discern their next steps.

Wild Goose Opportunities: Pat Conover

Based on his research into intentional communities and networking rather than organizational structures, Pat summarized his long interest in finding a larger context (beyond Church of the Saviour) for Seekers. He described his excitement over the movement evident at the Wild Goose Festival which seems to be gathering energy among evangelicals (like Jim Wallis at Soujourners and Fuller Seminary) with a progressive social agenda, including welcome for LGBTQ people. He named two platforms which might be especially useful:

            The Open Network, which offers individual memberships ($199) and church memberships ($399) to             collaborate on various projects (e.g. a 1-year MDiv through a Disciples of Christ Seminary based on             five one-week intensives in different places);

  •     Convergence, a coalition of leaders in this movement, who will be gathering Oct 5-7 in Indianapolis. He         has purchased an individual  membership in the Open Network, which covers the tuition for this event and     will report to Stewards after that.

Stewards seemed willing to experiment with a one-year membership, but decided to wait until Pat returns from the October gathering before we make that decision.

Two Stewards to share: Keith and Ken

Soul talk completed our time together.
