In the Tradition of the Church of the Saviour
Summer 1997

Reflection

My child, if you receive my words
and treasure my commandments,
making your ear attentive to wisdom
and inclining your heart to understanding;
yes, if you cry out for insight
and raise your voice for understanding,
if you seek it like silver
and search for it like hidden treasure;
then you will understand the fear of God
and find the knowledge of God.

Proverbs 2:1-5.

Prelude

Call To Worship

Leader:
Let nations sing your praise, every nation on earth.
Voice 1:
The world will shout for joy,
for you rule the planet with justice.
In fairness you govern the nations
and guide the peoples of earth.
Leader:
Let the nations sing your praise, every nation on earth.
Voice 2:
The land delivers its harvest,
God, our God has blessed us.
O God, continue your blessing,
may the whole world worship you.
Unison:
Favor and bless us, O God.
Let your face shine on us,
revealing your way to all peoples,
salvation the world over.

Affirmation Of Faith

Leader:
Gracious and merciful is the Holy One,
slow to anger, full of love.
God is good in every way,
merciful to every creature.
Voice 1:
The Holy One is faithful in every word
and gracious in every work.
She supports the fallen,
raises those bowed down.
Voice 2:
The Holy One is just in every way,
loving in every deed.
He is near to those who call,
who cry out from their hearts.
Unison:
God grants them their desires,
hears their cry and saves them.
Let all flesh bless God’s many Names,
holy, both now and for ever.

Psalm 145

Prayers

Common Confession
Leader:
Let us acknowledge our need for God’s forgiveness.
People:
While I hid my sin,
my bones grew weak from endless groaning.
Day and night, under the weight of your hand,
my strength withered as in a summer drought.
Unison:
Then I stopped hiding my sin and spoke out,
“God, I confess my wrong,” and you pardoned me.

Psalm 32

Individual Prayers Of Confession
Assurance (Leader)
Happy the pardoned, whose sin is canceled,
in whom God finds no evil, no deceit.
No wonder the faithful pray to you in danger!
Even a sudden flood will never touch them.

Be filled with the Spirit,
addressing one another in psalms

always and for everything giving thanks
in the name of the risen Christ.
