Sermons

Seekers recognizes that any member of the community may be called upon by God to give us the Word, and thus we have an open pulpit with a different preacher each week. Sermons preached at Seekers, as well as sermons preached by Seekers at other churches or events, are posted here, beginning with the most recent.

Feel free to use what is helpful from these sermons. We only ask that when substantial portions are abstracted or used in a written work, please credit Seekers Church and the author, and cite the URL.

Deborah Sokolove: Promises and Pathways to Freedom

October 20, 1996

I want to examine this notion of being heirs, of being part of God’s people, a little closer. What did it mean in earlier times, and what does it mean, now in 1996, to us as relatively privileged citizens of the most powerful nation on earth, to be heirs of that band of freed slaves who knew themselves, somehow, to be God’s own people?

Ronald Arms: Backwardness Training

September 29, 1996

Jesus is inviting us to participate in backwardness training. We have it all backwards. The direction we are headed does not lead to life. We need to turn around completely and go the opposite way. This isn’t about how far we can push the rules; it is about how far we can push ourselves. It is not about the least I can do and still be in good standing. It is about being totally available to others. This is not about finding a fire escape from hell; it is about finding the spring of living water.
