Bokamoso Returns in 2013!

In January, 2013 Seekers Church will once again be blessed by a visit from the Bokamoso Youth Centre in Winterveldt, South Africa. The group will be arriving on January 12th and returning home on February 13th. They are scheduled to bring the Word to our worship on Sunday, January 27th. We hope you will join us to hear first-hand their vibrant hope for the future. Last year a student at the George Washington University who was working with the visitors from Bokamoso created a web site with more photographs and videos. Seekers Church is delighted to welcome Bokamoso for what will be their 12th annual visit to this area. For over a decade Roy Barber, a member of Seekers Church and teacher at St. Andrews School in Potomac Maryland, has nurtured our relationship with the Centre, facilitating visits from this area to Winterveldt and helping the visitors from Bokamoso meet and share their stories with people here.

Because of the overflow crowd at their final performance last year at the Marvin Center at George Washington University, this year Bokamoso will be on stage on two nights, Friday, February 8th and Saturday February 9th. Both performances begin at 7:30, providing an energetic illustration of the mix of old and new in South Africa.

In addition to bringing the Word to our worship on January 27th, Seekers will be hosting a career workshop for members of the group beginning that afternoon. Earlier this month the Stewards of Seekers Church affirmed the Bokamoso Career Workshop as a ministry of Seekers Church, pledging to provide ongoing support to this important dimension of the Bokamoso visit. The word “Bokamoso” means “future” in the South African Tswana language, and we believe that helping the people of Bokamoso improve their career skills is one way we can help them make a better future for their community.
