REFLECTION

[We] walk in the shadows of faith – that is, in doubt.  Doubt and dedication often go hand in hand.  And “faith,” crucially, is not assenting intellectually to a series of doctrinal propositions; it is living in conscious and rededicated relationship to God.

Annie Dillard

“For the Time Being,” pg146

For each of us there comes a moment – or a slow series of moments – when we sense the God of the universe as a personally felt presence. Something cold in us warms, something stiff in us loosens, and we sense within ourselves a turning, an allowing, a yes.

Kayla McClurg

“Joining God’s Dream,” Inward/Outward Blog, pg 89.

SEEKERS CHURCH

A Christian Community

In the Tradition of the Church of the Saviour

Preparation for Recommitment

2006

A key element in the life of Seekers Church is the understanding that our commitment to Christ and to the Seekers Church is conscious and intentional. To reinforce this understanding, we renew our commitment to the community each year. This year “Recommitment Sunday” will be observed on the third Sunday of October, the 15th. This date recalls the initial commitment of the founding members of the Church of the Saviour in 1947.

This time before Recommitment Sunday is an opportunity for us to reflect on our commitment to God and to Seekers Church. This year, as you reflect on the call of Seekers Church and our commitment statements, we invite you to ask yourself:

  1. What do I bring to my relationship with God through this Christian community; and
  2. What do I need from and through this community in order to deepen my commitment to Christ?

We encourage you to reflect on what you mean to the community and the wider world.  Part of our traditional preparation includes a silent hour of prayer in the sanctuary, before signing the Seekers membership log, the record of all Seekers members since 1976.  Every choice you make, every call you answer changes all of us!

Every Sunday between now and October 15th a member of the Servant Leadership Team will be outside the World Room with the membership log book, to answer questions and invite you to sign the book once you are clear about your commitment to God and this community of faith.

On Recommitment Sunday all those who are called to make their commitment as Members of Seekers Church, who attend regularly and who identify themselves as Seekers, will use the Member’s statement.  The Stewards will use the longer statement on the next page.  We pray that each of us will use this recommitment season to envision the future for Seekers Church and the part we are called to play in this new chapter of our life together.
