CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: We come, hoping for something new,  for some bright future  where peace brings justice to all creation.

People: We come, tired from carrying the burdens of a broken world.

Leader: We come,  eager for your invitation to a time of deep forgiveness.

All:   Holy Maker of All Creation,
help us rest in you, knowing that you lay out the path,  into the future that only you have seen.

RESPONSIVE READING

Leader: God turns rivers into sand,
   springs to thirsty ground,
   rich earth into salt flats,
   when evil dwells in the land.

People: But God turns desert into flowing water,
   dry land into fertile valleys,
   and gives this place to the hungry
   to build the city of God.

Leader: Good hearts, rejoice!
   Evil mouths, be shut!

All:   Let the wise listen and wonder at God’s great love.

PRAYERS

COMMON CONFESSION

Leader: We look beyond now, yearning to see hope.

Voice 1: What we see is diminishment.

Voice 2: What we sense is uncertainty.

Leader: What we bear are the burdens of a broken world.

All:   What we feel is fear.
   What we lack is vision and courage.

INDIVIDUAL PRAYERS OF CONFESSION

ASSURANCE

Leader: The Creator offers us hope
   that transcends this moment.
   Christ’s love sustains us, even in our weakness.
   The Holy Spirit refreshes our spirit
   and calls forth our courage.
   The Holy One calls us into Jubilee! Amen.

All:   Amen!

PRAYERS OF THANKSGIVING AND INTERCESSION

UNISON PRAYER

All:   Holy One, we come today
   to claim our relationship with you.
   We pray for the commitment to grow together,
   sharing the gifts you give us with others
   here and in the wider world.

   Give us strength and discipline
   to nurture our relationship with You;
   to care for every part of Your Creation;
   to foster justice and be in solidarity with those in need;
   to work to end all war, and violence, and discord;
   and to respond joyfully when you call,
   freely giving our selves as you have shown the way.

   We open our hearts to you and your Creation
   in the name of Jesus, who is the Christ.
   Amen.
