New Starting Time
Welcome to the second season of Carroll Cafe, the second Fridays coffeehouse at Seekers Church. The first concert is scheduled for Sept 9th at 7:30 pm. Our first concert will feature five different acts from Azalea City Recordings, Takoma Park’s own record label. We will hear performances from Laura Baron, and Carey Creed, talented singer/songwriters: Ruthie Logsdon, of Ruthie and the Wranglers-an exciting western band; a string trio: Hoag, Kelley, and Pilzer who specialize in Scandinavian-style string music; and our own Jesse Palidofsky who will probably be better than the last time you heard him.
Azalea City Recordings is celebrating their 15th year with this concert, and the release of their fourth compliation CD, which can be had for only $ 5.00. Carroll Cafe is happy to work with this kindred musical neighbor. We are starting a half hour earlier than last year but the concerts will cost the same low fifteen dollars, and we’ll have snacks available for purchase as usual. If you haven’t attended a concert before we hope that you’ll put us on your calendar.
Carroll Cafe is pleased to present musicians like the Azalea City artists, and in the coming months we are looking forward to hearing from other performers of the highest caliber. In October we’ll have Claudia Schmidt, who has appeared on the Prarie Home Companion; in November: Charlie King and Karen Brandow, a couple who have deep roots in the folk tradition, to quote them “[we hope to] take the listener on a journey of humor, heartache and hope;” and in December Magpie, and Kim and Reggie Harris will team up to present a winter concert. We’ve got a brand new website for you to look at: www.carrollcafe.org, and you might be able to find us on facebook, please take a look, and we’ll see you on the 9th.
