Stewards Minutes
February12, 2017

Worship was offered by David, who read a portion of the day’s Gospel passage and a passage on reconciliation through listening.
Housekeeping: Stewards’ next meeting will be Sunday, March 5, 5pm at the church.

Review Team for Katie Fisher: Kevin volunteered to work with Time & Space Mission Group to serving on a Review Team for Katie Fisher, who works as our Building Use Coordinator under the supervision of Time & Space.
Church of the Saviour (CoS): Keith reported on the January 15 CoS Ecumenical Council meeting and the importance of an ongoing role for Church of the Saviour, which owns the land at Dayspring. Marjory reported on the open house at Overlook Retreat House, which is now open for individual and small group talking retreats.
Othandweni Update: In coordination with Bill Drehman and Linda Nunes-Schrag, David presented an update on our work with Othandweni. The daycare program now serves almost 50 children, with partial funding from the government, and has hired 2 new qualified teachers. The Aftercare Program serves about 45 regular participants plus occasional drop-ins. The Guest House is primarily supported by Bokomoso guests. A bakery project is scheduled to start soon. The new board is very involved and committed to improving the organization and seeks additional funding sources. They are tackling their personnel and organizational structure challenges. Technical assistance from Linda and Bill, along with Jim Cauley, is making a real difference.
Luncheon with Newer Members: Keith and Joan reported on the Outreach Mission Group’s first luncheon with newer members of Seekers, which went extremely well. It was noted that participation in evening activities is difficult for some.
Easter Breakfast: If we are to have an Easter Breakfast, we need a volunteer to take charge. No volunteer emerged at the meeting. SLT will let the entire community know about this opportunity.
Legal Team: David reported that the legal team of Keith Seat and Doug Dodge has reviewed the proposed alcohol use policy and sent it on to Time and Space. Stewards agreed to reconstitute an ongoing Legal Team comprised of Keith and Doug.
Financial Report: Marjory presented the final 2016 Year End Operating Budget Report, which is attached. We ended the year with a $17,882 deficit in our Operating Budget, which will be covered by funds in our bank account from bequests.
Letter concerning DC TANF Program: Stewards agreed to sign on to two letters asking the DC government (a) to extend the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families program in DC beyond October, and (b) to pause their restrictive fiscal policies so that needy children and families can get the help they need.
